vision

YVML believes that artistic expression occurs when we afford ourselves time to explore without expectations or intent. Through residencies, instructional workshops and public programming, we encourage artists to take the time necessary to develop new skills and investigate new modes of making through iterative material exploration.

Deep 'sunset work'.

Colors deepening into jewel tones; orange and pink sherbet. Always the faint perceptible tint of urban smog hanging over the mountains. I see raptors, rabbits, birds that look like tiny fish as their silhouetted bodies undulate across the sky. A lonely swallow balancing on a power line swaying in the wind. The carcass of an off road tire sprawled out so as to resemble an alligator coming out of the ground.

The desert is divine.

The desert is dirty.

The desert is deadly.

The flickering porch lights tell me the kiln is still running.
